Get internet access on your phone by texting Batelco

If you don't have internet service on your phone but you really need it then you may want to bookmark this post.

It's not available to post-paid phone users, they have to go in to Batelco to add the service. Just one more way BTC makes being  a post-paid customer a sucky experience. Also, I was told the "platform is down" when I called today so it may not work right now. Hopefully it's only temporary.

Anyhoo. . . . to access the internet temporarily follow the steps below:
  1. Make sure you have enough money on your phone to cover the cost of the package you want
  2. Text the code that corresponds to your package IN ALL CAPS to 5000
  3. Codes:
    1. 7 days - $12.99: BB7D
    2. 14 days - $21.99: BB14D
    3. 30 days - $39.99: BB30D
Don't bother looking for the info on BTC's website http://www2.btcbahamas.com/ cause it aint there. I had to call to find out. To their credit, the woman I spoke to knew what I was talking about and gave me the info. She did not sound particularly excited but I'll take effective over pleasant any day.

That is all.

Free Wi-Fi Hot Spots in The Bahamas

Now you can get a list of the places that free Wi-Fi is available in The Bahamas.

The list, available here from The Bahamas Weekly, is a sign that more and more Bahamians are interested in the internet, something that makes me optimistic about national interest in the world wide web.

Here is the list as it is now:

Grand Bahama Island
  • Agave Restaurant, Port Lucaya Marketplace
  • Ruby Swiss Restaurant, West Sunrise and Atlantic Drive
  • Sparky's Bar, Port Lucaya Marketplace
  • Burger King, East Mall Drive
  • Areas throughout Port Lucaya Marketplace
  • Sunrise Resort and Marina
  • Regional/SkyBahamas Airport
New Providence
  • All Starbucks locations:
  • Woodes Rogers Walk
  • Marina Village, Paradise Island
  • Cable Beach Casino
  • Harbour Bay Shopping Center
  • Mall at Marathon
  • Oakes Field
  • The Reef, Atlantis
  • Conch Fritters, West Bay Street, opposite the British Colonial Hilton
  • The Sheraton Nassau Beach Resort

Hopefully Bahamas Weekly will keep the list up to date. To do that they are asking all business owners who offer free Wi-Fi to send their business name, address (including which Island you are located), phone number & email address to Info@thebahamasweekly.com.

Thanks to Ampy from the Things We Learned blog for the heads up on this service.
