Adding multiple gmail calendars to your iPhone Calendar

So, you love Google Calendars and the way they let you separate your events and friends but you want to see them all on your iPhone?

No problem. It should take less than 2 minutes if everything's working and less than 5 if you have trouble.

Go to your Calendar. Find the name of the calendar you want to add to your phone in the list on the left. Next to the name you should see a little arrow. If you click on that arrow you can go straight to the settings for that calendar.

Little arrow:
My_google_calendars

Once you're in the settings area scroll to the bottom and look for you Calendar Address and private address. Your Calendar address is the one you share when you want to share your public calendar with someone. That includes whatever information you have set to be public in your settings. By default it is private. Your private address includes all your info.

Gmail_calendar_address

For your iPhone you will want to click on the ICAL link in the private area, which will grant you full access to the calendar's info.

Copy that link and email it to yourself.

Open the email on your phone and click on the link. Your phone should ask you if you want to subscribe to that calendar. Say yes.

That's it.

If you have trouble check out this post from http://www.ideaexcursion.com/2009/06/17/howto-sync-google-calendar-on-iphone-os-3-0/. Pay special attention to this paragraph at the bottom of the post (but above the comments):

Multiple CalDAV Calendars

It’s possible to sync secondary calendars from Google (i.e. those that are not the “main” calendar). This is simple, but you need a special ID similar to the ICS URL. Go back to you calendar settings page where the Private Address is listed. Above there is a section labeled Calendar Address. To the very right is a Calendar ID. Copy this ID into an email and compose a URL like the following:

This URL is different than what the Google Calendar Help page suggests. Email this URL to yourself, copy it, then paste it into the “Server” field from above. The rest of the settings should copy itself into the Advanced Settings.

Google Calendars are powerful tools, even more so because they are free. Sharing a work or fun calendar with your friends can make a lot of meeting and greeting less painful and chaotic.

To do this effectively you will probably want to separate your private events from your more public ones. So, if you have not setup a Google Calendar or you only have one, head to www.google.com/calendar now to get one going.

That is all.

Make your own iPhone ringtones

There are not many email subscriptions that I actually check but http://www.iphone4jailbreak.org/ is one of them. They usually post useful apps and tricks for the iPhone including the latest news on hacks and unlocks. They present their information clearly and consicely which I appreciate.

One of their latest posts about making your own ringtones for your iPhone is a good example. When I looked for info on this I had to search several forums to get a straight answer. Here they have it all laid out.

So, search your iTunes library and get to customizing. I know iPhone has tons of awesome ringtones (bitter, sarcastic laughter) but you should at least know how to make your phone say "Gucci Gucci Louis Louis Fendi Fendi Prada . . . "
